This book (in the photo) is where my own hypnobirthing journey began. 💪
In my second pregnancy, 38 weeks pregnant, scared of repeating the trauma from my first birth experience but knowing that maybe, just maybe, there could be a different way to experience birth?
Yes I left it very late. My main plan was to have a planned c-section. I thought a vaginal birth was beyond me to be honest, beyond my body. I wasn’t capable. I had failed so spectacularly the first time, how could I get it right this time?
These are all the awful, negative things I told myself.😔
Making a change
Anyway, I waddled off to the library at 38 weeks pregnant and picked up this book. I thought, well, it cant do any harm can it? I headed to my local Nero’s, got myself a decaf tea (and a cinnamon roll because they’re the best) and started to read.
I didn’t finish the book, not anywhere near. But I read a sentence in there that said “Your baby is your birth partner” and that one sentence flipped my entire perspective.
This whole time I had been looking for things external to me to birth my baby. The midwives, the consultant. Because I couldn’t possibly do it, could I?
The moment things changed forever
February 18th 2017. The day that changed my whole perspective on birth. I went into spontaneous labour, which after a previous induction and emergency c-section was a bit scary in itself. 🤯
I took my time. I believed I could do it. I believed that together, me and my baby would do this! 🫶
After 8 hours my daughter was born. No induction, No c-section. No pain relief. No midwives doing it for me. Just me and her. I literally could not believe it.
Where could hypnobirthing take you?
So this book makes me emotional because without it my life would look very different.
I always wonder if I had gone ahead with the planned c-section (in the diary for 20th February) would we have gone on to have our third baby? I would most definitely still work in an office job that pays the bills and not be teaching you guys how to have more positive birth experiences.🙌
One trip to the library. One book. One sentence. Changed everything.
