Hypnobirthing: when to start

|

When should you start hypnobirthing?

If you’re pregnant and considering hypnobirthing, one of the first questions you might be asking is:
“When should I start?”

The short answer?
Whenever feels right for you.

Most people begin their hypnobirthing journey somewhere between 20 and 30 weeks. This tends to be a sweet spot – you’re settled into your pregnancy, past the early scan phase, and it gives you plenty of time to learn and practise the techniques before baby arrives.

But honestly? It’s never too early – and never too late.

Starting earlier gives you more time to build those habits: the breathing, the relaxation, the mindset work. You can use the techniques throughout pregnancy too – for sleep, stress, and simply feeling more connected to your body and baby.

That said, I often work with parents who discover hypnobirthing a little later – sometimes at 36 weeks – and still find it hugely helpful. It’s not about having months and months of prep. It’s about learning tools that help you feel calmer, more in control, and better equipped to make decisions during labour and birth.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re planning a home birth, hospital birth, induction or caesarean – hypnobirthing can support all of it. The breathing, relaxation and mindset tools help you work with your body, rather than against it. And just as importantly, it helps your birth partner feel more confident and involved too.

So if you’ve been wondering if you’ve “missed the boat” – you haven’t.
If you’re thinking about it – that’s your nudge. 💛

Whether you’re 22 weeks or 36 weeks, hypnobirthing courses can make a real difference.
