What’s your vibe? When picking the music for your birth playlist it’s important to consider the different feelings you may be experiencing.
Labour can be quite a considerable length of time so it might be that in the early stages you want to stay active and so something upbeat and energising could be the thing – perhaps a bit of Lizzo brining the vibe.
As you progress through labour you might want things to calm down a bit and become more intimate. This might be where your affirmations or softer, spa like music might come into play.
At the moment of birth you might actually just want no sound, or you might be so completely focussed that Elton John could be playing the piano in the corner and you wouldn’t notice!
I know it can feel like a complete unknown, how will you know what sounds/ music are for you, especially if you haven’t been in labour before!
The easy way to sort this is to have a few playlists prepared for all kinds of moods and make sure your birth partner knows the drill when it comes to which playlist to stick on and when!
For me, I listened to The Calm Birth School affirmations read by the gorgeous Suzy Ashworth for the whole of my third labour and birth – approximately 9 hours of that on repeat! Hey, I had an absolute dream birth so it obviously worked!
