How are your boobs?

|

Boobs are usually a hot topic after baby is born. Has your milk come through, are your bobs massive, are you breastfeeding, how are your nipples? And many more questions that you had never considered someone might ask you openly about your boobs!

The changes in our breasts happen from the very moment baby is conceived. They can help us know we are pregnant, and throughout pregnancy our boobs change and prepare for their moment once baby is born.

In those first couple of weeks after baby has been conceived our bodies experience a surge in hormones which starts the change in our boobs. They may feel swollen, a bit sore and heavy and nipples may feel more sensitive.

As your baby grows you might find that your areolas (around your nipples) change colour and start to darken, and veins may become more noticeable. They will also start to grow so you may get stretch marks and it is a good idea to go and get measured for a good fitting bra.

From around 16 weeks your boobs will start producing colostrum – baby’s first feed. This can sometimes leak a little so have some breast pads in just in case.

As your boobs change and grow they may also feel a bit lumpy. If you do find any lumps in your breasts, please make an appointment with your GP to make sure it’s all good.
